The Information Society in Spain Report 2011

Fundación Telefonica has recently published an interesting report: The 12th edition of the Information Society in Spain. This report gathers the main indicators, data and changes that allow a description of the current situation of the sector to be made.

The Information Society is a continually evolving reality. In 2011, connections to the Internet in Spain have continued to rise, fundamentally due to mobile broadband, at the same time as the smartphone has become the top selling terminal in the world ahead of the PC. The year has also been marked by the move towards an Internet which is personally and professionally more productive, beyond mere entertainment; the dynamism of the more mature groups of the population; the redefinition of the way in which digital content is being used and, generally, the way in which the Internet is used.

The 12th edition of the Information Society in Spain Report gathers the main indicators, data and changes that allow a description of the current situation of the sector to be made.

The first chapter presents the 10 key points from the year. The second chapter gathers in a visual form the most important information regarding network connectivity and access availability, as well as the terminals which permit enjoyment of the Information Society. In addition, the report analyses issues concerning the impact made by the use of Information and Communication Technologies in different fields and sectors of the economic and social reality. The third chapter presents a study, based on Telefónica data, in order to understand digital life and reality.
